South Portland, MAINE (March 4, 2009) - Dr. F. Lincoln Avery of Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine will accompany the qualifying members of the Women's U.S. Ski team, including number one ranked Lindsey Vonn, on their week-long trip next week to the final event of the season, the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Finals being held in Are, Sweden from March 11-15.

"We've got a really exciting trip ahead of us. The fact that several members of both the women's and the men's teams have made it this far and with Lindsey [Vonn] being so close to winning the overall women's cup, especially after her Super-G win in Bulgaria last Sunday, just makes the whole trip even more amazing," says Dr. Avery of his fast approaching visit to the World Cup as a Physician to the U.S. Ski Team.

Dr. Avery will be leaving on Saturday March 7th for Sweden to join both the women's and men's teams and continue his role in keeping the athletes in top condition and ready to compete. He is part of an elite legion of doctors from across the country that has been chosen to travel and direct medical care for the organization's 15 national teams. "I'm honored to be chosen as a team physician. Through all the years of conditioning, training and competing, this is when it all counts. Skiing is a tough sport and this team is ready."

A specialist in arthroscopic sports medicine for over 20 years, Dr. Avery has a special interest in sport related injuries and lectures regularly on sport injury prevention techniques. A former collegiate ski racer, he is a physician for the U.S. Ski Team and has traveled extensively with the men's and women's Alpine World Cup and Olympic Teams since 1989. He has also served as an orthopedic consultant for the Sunday River Ski Resort, and was a team physician for Bowdoin College for over 20 years.
